Our Team

Jay Kull, MD

Dr. Jay Kull is a board-certified otolaryngologist - head and neck surgeon specializing in disorders of the esophagus, larynx, and nasopharynx.

Born and raised in London, Ohio, Dr. Kull received his Medical Doctoral degree (with honors) from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore in 1993. While attending medical school he served as class president two years, and received the Outstanding Medical Student Award from the American Medical Association during his senior year.

He continued his training at Stanford University Medical Center completing both an internship in general surgery and a residency in Otolaryngology/Head Neck Surgery in 2000. Following his residency, he practiced with Stevenson Ear, Nose & Throat Clinic for 5 years before opening his own practice in January of 2005.

Dr. Kull is married and is the father of two children. His outside interests include writing, traveling, and photography.

John Utterson, MD

Dr. John Utterson is a board-certified otolaryngologist - head and neck surgeon specializing in head and neck surgical oncology, thyroid and parathyroid disorders, and diseases of the sinuses and ear.

Dr. Utterson received his Medical Doctoral degree from University of Washington Medical Center in 1994. He continued his training in San Francisco, CA at University of California completing both an internship in general surgery and a residency in Otolaryngology/Head Neck Surgery in 2001. He has been in private practice since 2002 and joined Kull ENT & Allergy Specialists in 2005.

He is widely published in the field of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and is a recipient of the Edmund Prince Fowler Award for excellence in research given by the American Laryngological, Rhinological and Otological (Triological) Society.

An Atlanta native, Dr. Utterson is married and is the father of one child. His outside interests include playing golf, water skiing, and gardening.

Shannon Poole, MD

Dr. Shannon Poole is a board-certified otolaryngologist - head and neck surgeon specializing in ear, nose, and throat diseases with a special interest in vocal cord problems.

Born and raised in Nashville, TN, Dr. Poole received her Medical Doctoral degree from Vanderbilt University Medical Center in 1999, completing both her internship in general surgery and residency in Otolaryngology/Head Neck Surgery at Emory University Hospital in 2005.

During her residency, she authored numerous publications and presented multiple times at the American Academy of Otolaryngology annual meeting of which she is a member. Dr. Poole joined Kull ENT & Allergy Specialists in 2006.

Dr. Poole is married and is the mother of one child. Her outside interests include painting, running, and spending time with her family.

Heidi Lanyon, MD

Dr. Heidi Lanyon is a board-certified otolaryngologist - head and neck surgeon specializing in diseases of the ear, sinonasal surgery, facial trauma, and head and neck cancer.

Dr. Lanyon received her Medical Doctoral degree (with honors) from University of Michigan Medical School in 1996. Her training then continued in Iowa City, IA at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics completing both an internship in general surgery and a residency in Otolaryngology/Head Neck Surgery in 2003. She has been in private practice since 2004, and joined Kull ENT & Allergy Specialists in 2007.

In her spare time, Dr. Lanyon enjoys yoga, hiking, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
